Belgreen sweeps Tharptown

THARPTOWN – Martha Billingham put on a show during the first half of the Belgreen varsity girls game at Tharptown, scoring 22 of her 25 points to help the Lady Bulldogs build a 33-25 lead at halftime.
Belgreen pulled away for a 61-37 victory and finished area play with a perfect 10-0 record.
Loren McVicker also had a strong performance for the Lady Bulldogs. She scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Also scoring for Belgreen were Amber Smith with 12 points, Deborah Billingham and Katy Britton with four points each and Anna DeVaney with two points.
Hollie Hines recorded a double-double for Tharptown. She scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Also scoring for the Lady Wildcats were Chelsea McCluskey (6), Kendra Baker (6), Autumn Hatton (2), Jessica Myrick (2), Tosha George (1) and Braedon Sellers (1).

Belgreen kept its hopes of claiming the No. 2 seed in the Class 1A, Area 15 tournament alive by beating Tharptown 76-64.
The teams swapped the lead several times in the first half and the Wildcats took a 31-29 lead into halftime, but Belgreen opened the third quarter with a 10-4 run to take control of the game.
Belgreen got the bulk of its scoring from Taylor Hester and Sam Presley. Taylor scored 27 points while Presley scored 21.
Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Brandon Hester (8), Spencer Hargett (8), Jared Richardson (5), B.J. Horton (4), Will Hester (2) and Ben Britnell (1).
Tharptown had three players reach double-digit scoring. Manny Ricardo led the way with 24 points while Jacob Parker scored 14 and Drew Ergle scored 13.
Also scoring for the Wildcats were Trevor Hallmark (8), Tyler Cagle (2), Wade Berryman (2) and Matt Austin (1).
