RED BAY – Investigators with the Red Bay Police Department are following leads to learn the identity of the man responsible for taking money from a local restaurant.
Red Bay Police Chief Pat Creel said a man entered Ezzell's Restaurant, located on 1st Street SE in Red Bay, and ordered a sandwich. But, when the employees went in the back to make his order, the man left with the cash register.
"It's your basic snatch and grab," Creel said. "There were no injuries or anything."
Creel said the register had an estimated $700 inside. The suspect is a man male, approximately five-foot-six, weighing 120 pounds. He had sandy blonde hair and a fair complexion and no facial hair.
"The employees working said the man wasn't someone they had seen around town," Creel said.
However, Creel said the man had to have a good idea how the business was run in order to know the employee would leave him alone with the register while his order was being made.
"It's someone who's been in the restaurant before," Creel said. "He's probably not a regular, but he's been in the business before."
Creel said investigators are following up on leads and are searching for anyone with any information on this theft.
"Anyone with any information should contact the department at 356-4455," Creel said.
