Carolyn Janell Latham, 67, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
She was a native of Phil Campbell and had lived in the Oak Grove community for the past 52 years. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and the Mountaintop Homemakers' Club.
Funeral services were Nov. 10 at Beulah Baptist Church with Bro. John Stancil, Bro. Curtis Taylor, Bro. T.L. Pierce and Bro. Roger Jones officiating. Burial was in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Bailey Latham of Russellville; children, Anita Blacklidge of Muscle Shoals, Wayne Latham of Russellville, Cathy Swinney of Phil Campbell, Mark Latham of Russellville, Amy Latham of Russellville and Danny Latham, Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister, Marie Keller of Phil Campbell; and two brothers, Henry Kinard Jr. and Jimmy Kinard, both of Phil Campbell; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Plott, Devaughn Ricketts, A.J. Jones, Sammy Swinney, Shaun Swinney and Lyle Garrison.

Bettie Baker Moore

Bettie Baker Moore, 66, of Gastonia, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at her residence.
She was born June 26, 1942 in Red Bay, Ala., to Orville and Hazel Frost Baker who preceded her in death. She was the manager of Carolina Federal Credit Union for 19 years.
Graveside services were held Nov. 8 at Ridge Cemetery in Golden, Miss.
She is survived by two children, Sheila and Tommy Newman, of Oneonta and Rodney Moore, of Saltillo, Miss.; one brother, Jerry and wife Wanda Baker of Athens; three grandchildren, Tiffiney Kimbrough, Amy Kimbrough and Kevin Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Braylen.

Bobby Ray Boyles

Bobby Ray Boyles, 65, of Haleyville, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
He served in the Army National Guard and was retired from the City of Haleyville Street and Sanitation Department. He was a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Nov. 9 at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. John Stancil officiating.
He is survived by two daughters, Konnie Taylor and Barbara Brewer; one sister, Janice Self; four grandchildren, Janet Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Anthony Brewer and Steven Brewer; and one great-grandchild, Brayden Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Boyles; father, Prince Boyles; and his brother, Earnest Boyles.

Eva Bernice Howell Rhodes

Eva Bernice Howell Rhodes, 89, passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Decatur General Hospital in Decatur, Ala. She was a member of Flint Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Billy Cagle officiating. Burial was in East Lawrence Memorial Garden.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Howell of Maryville, Tenn., and Larry Howell of Killen; four daughters, Bonnie Johnson, Jo Almaroad, Pam Tate and Pat Alford, all of Decatur; one brother, James Tulen Hellums of Russellville; one sister, Evelyn Strange of Silver Spring, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Donna Whitten, Bobby Peavler, Debbie Morgan, Melissa Mills, Lori Reeves, Janice Heard, Angie Ingle, Mike Howell, Charles Mangino, Vic Mangino and Lance Penley; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Howell, Lance Penley, Barry Whitten, Mark Heard, Drake Whitten, Bobby Peavler, Brian Mills and Steve Morgan.
The family would like to thank the nurses on the fourth floor of Decatur General Hospital and all her friends at Decatur Health and Rehab and the staff, nurses and Dr. Harbin for their wonderful care.

Shelby Lynn Grissom

Shelby Lynn Grissom, 17, of Spruce Pine, Ala., passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
She lived her entire life in Franklin County and was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Phil Campbell. She was in the graduating class of 2009 at Phil Campbell High School and was voted homecoming queen this year. She was student council president, senior class favorite and Who's Who Friendliest Girl.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Poss officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery and her body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her parents, Keith and Deb Grissom of Spruce Pine; sister, Addie Grissom of Spruce Pine; grandparents, Howard and Billy Grissom of Spruce Pine and Raymond and Bobbie Rice of Phil Campbell; aunt, Yolanda Odom and husband Gary; uncle, Alan Rice and wife, Patti; five cousins; five second cousins and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Odom, Clint Smith, Brett Garrison, Jeremiah Morgan, Chase Hutcheson and Ryan Champion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northwest-Shoals Foundation Scholarship Fund in memory of Shelby Lynn Grissom.

David Webster Ellington

David Webster Ellington, 71, of Haleyville, Ala., passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1937, in Glendora, Miss. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Haleyville and was an airplane pilot for many years. He was the owner of Mid City TV for the past 20 years.
Memorial services were Nov. 15 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Cooley officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Oliver Ellington and Marjorie Webster Ellington.
He is survived by his children, David Webster Ellington, Jr. and Marjorie Ellington Flautt; brother, Dr. Lucien Ellington; three grandchildren, Anna Minor, Emily Flautt Young and Sarah Ellington; and two great-grandchildren, Allyson Brooks Moorman and Tucker Graham Young.
