RED BAY – The Bay Tree Council in Red Bay will open their performance season on Nov. 13 with The Odd Couple, which was written by Neil Simon.
Council member Scotty Kennedy said the classic comedy opens as a group of guys assemble for cards in the apartment of divorcee Oscar Madison.
And if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just been separated from his wife.
Since Felix is very fastidious and none too tense, they fear he might commit suicide and go about locking all the windows. When Felix arrives, he is scarcely allowed to go the bathroom alone.
As the action unfolds, the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born.
The cast includes Mark Nichols, Mark Richardson, Brente Jeffreys, Mark Senf, Don Holcomb, Scotty Kennedy, Beth Hammock and Dora Wallace, with the play directed by Zeb Wallace.
The play will run through Nov. 16 at the Arts and Entertainment Center in Red Bay between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the A&E for $8 each.
The Bay Tree Council was formed in 1996 with a small but visionary group of people who wanted to bring community theater to Red Bay. The group's first production was in December 1996 with Home for Christmas. Since then, the Bay Tree Council has churned out numerous productions including the highly popular dinner theatre.
