Belgreen basketball tops Tharptown in middle school and ninth-grade action

BELGREEN – The Belgreen basketball teams swept Tharptown Monday by defeating the Wildcats in games featuring the ninth grade and the seventh and eight grade teams.
The ninth-grade boys won 39-29 thanks to 15 points from Ben Britnell. Tyler Medina and Jake Tittle added seven points each for the Bulldogs.
Belgreen jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
Kent Allen led the way for the Wildcats with 11 points while Timothy Bryant scored nine.
Erica Smith led the Lady Bulldogs past the Lady Wildcats 38-36 with a 27-point performance.
The game was tied at halftime, but Belgreen pulled away in the third quarter. Tharptown rallied late, but came up short.
Braedon Seller led the Lady Wildcats with nine points while Chloe Lane scored eight and Joshlyn Rhea added seven points for Tharptown.
Kelby Hallmark scored 25 points for the Tharptown seventh and eighth grade team, but it was not enough as Belgreen cruised to a 65-40 victory.
Josh Devaney led the Bulldogs with 26 points while Jared Mitchell added 10 points.
Brandon Chaney scored eight for the Wildcats.
In seventh and eighth grade girls action, Belgreen erased an early 6-0 deficit to squeak out a 22-20 win over Tharptown.
Lexie Bragwell led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points while Chloe Wallace added eight points.
Kamri Spears led the Lady Wildcats with 18 points. Allie Chaffin the team's other two points.
