Fall fever

Red Bay adds unique streetscapes

RED BAY – The City of Red Bay is getting fall fever as many of its street corners are decorated to celebrate autumn.
The Red Bay Garden Club named the campaign "Streetscapes," according to Rosalyn Fabianke, committee chair.
"We asked businesses and organizations to adopt a block in Red Bay in the spirit of autumn, and the response has been amazing," Fabianke said.
She said the project was meant for the downtown area but businesses and industries have caught on and the streetscapes can be found throughout the city.
"We were so amazed by response," Fabianke said. "The scenes can be found as far out as Golden Road near the end of town."
Each corner has its own unique feel about it, and creative props have also been used.
This is the first year for Streetscapes, and the garden club has already announced that the will sponsor a "Springscape" campaign in the spring.
"We have so much for Christmas, but we don't have a lot for fall and spring," Fabianke said.
Streetscapes can be viewed from Oct. 20 through Nov. 30, but many of the participants began decorating early and that's when the concept caught on.
Fabianke said the club will choose a grand streetscape in addition to first place, second place, and third place. The winning streetscapes will receive special recognition.
The garden club streetscape committee members are Olivia King, Jean Hardin and Denise Pierce. If anyone else would like to participate in this project, there is still time to join.
Fabianke said participants can contact any committee member to enter the contest and receive a location in town.
