RED BAY- A Red Bay man faces forgery and drug possession charges after posing as a medical employee to obtain a prescription.
Police Chief Pat Creel said William Richard Sanders, 49, of 714 10th Street NE in Red Bay, was arrested over the weekend and charged with possession of a controlled substance and third-degree forgery.
"Mr. Sanders obtained a prescription illegally by calling a local pharmacy and ordering himself medication," Creel said.
The pharmacy realized that the person ordering the medication was not from a doctor's office, and alerted authorities.
Creel said Sanders was housed at the Red Bay city jail Saturday and Sunday night, and transported to the Franklin County Detention Center Monday morning, where he remains pending a bond hearing.
According to the Alabama Criminal Code, possession of controlled substance is a Class C felony, which carries a penalty of one to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
