Alternate dates offered for Halloween activities

Halloween is the night when little trick-or-treaters fill the streets in search for candy. Halloween is observed on Oct. 31 annually, but this year many in Franklin County are making other plans.
Since Halloween falls on a Friday night, the City of Red Bay voted earlier this week to have Halloween festivities on Saturday, Nov. 1.
"Trick-or-treating in Red Bay will be Nov. 1," said Linda Holcomb, city clerk for Red Bay. "All the churches will have their events on this night as well. We did have one church to decide not to do anything at all this year."
Officials with the First United Methodist Church in Russellville and the First Baptist Church decided to move their annual event as well. Both churches will hold their annual events on Thursday, Oct. 30.
However, the City of Russellville has taken no official action about when trick-or-treating should or should not take place.
The Town of Phil Campbell has not considered moving the date because of football schedules.
"We have not discussed moving the date at this point," said Ann Bragwell, town clerk for Hodges.
The changes in Halloween plans have been made to support the local football teams. On Oct. 31, Russellville will be traveling to Colbert County, Phil Campbell will host Hackleburg, Red Bay will host Colbert Heights and Vina will host Hubbertville.
Tharptown will play their football game on Thursday, Oct. 30 at home against Hatton.
