PC unable to stop Indian pass attack in 44-14 loss

By Staff
CHEROKEE – Although the Cherokee offense only completed six passes, those strikes put the end to any hopes of Phil Campbell earning a region win Friday.
Indian quarterback Kelvin Martin passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns during Cherokee's 44-14 victory against the Bobcats.
His three touchdown passes were the first three scores of the game and he added another score on a 58-yard interception return to give the Indians a 26-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
Daniel Bryant got the Bobcats on the scoreboard with a 1-yard run, but the extra point attempt failed and Phil Campbell (1-6, 0-5) trailed by 20 at halftime.
Cherokee (4-3, 3-2) added a field goal in the third.
Phil Campbell opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 9-yard run by Bryant. Jordan Benford ran the ball into the end zone on the two-point conversion to cut the Indians' lead to 29-14.
Cherokee would add a pair of long touchdown runs later in the quarter to pad its lead.
Bryant led the Phil Campbell rushers with 90 yards on 21 carries while Benford had 20 rushes for 69 yards.
Benford completed four passes for 48 yards and threw three interceptions.
Matt Waid led the Bobcat receivers with a pair of catches for 25 yards. Adam Mitchell caught one pass for 17 yards.
Seth Brown led the Phil Campbell defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery while Waid recorded an interception.
Phil Campbell will hold homecoming this Friday against Hatton.
