Hubbard tops Red Devils 31-6

COURTLAND – R.A. Hubbard took a step towards the playoffs Friday while dealing quite a blow to Vina's season in a 31-6 victory over the Red Devils.
Hubbard jumped out to 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 4-yard run. The Chiefs (3-1, 3-1) added to the lead in the second quarter with a 52-yard touchdown run, a 6-yard scoring run and a 40-yard touchdown run to pull ahead 24-0.
Vina (1-3, 1-3) avoided the shutout when Cass White hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Brent Townsend with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter.
The Chiefs answered later in the third on an 8-yard run to pull ahead 31-6.
The Red Devils had some success moving the ball, and Vina got in good scoring position a few times. The Red Devils reached the Hubbard 1-yard line twice, but could not score.
Townsend recovered a Chief fumble then led the Red Devils deep into R.A. Hubbard territory before the drive stalled.
Cody Poores also had a fumble recovery for Vina.
Townsend completed nine of 48 pass attempts for 169 yards and a touchdown.
Morgan McCarley pulled in four passes for 52 yards while White caught had four receptions for 61 yards and the touchdown. Aaron Gray had two catches for 56 yards.
Vina will host Phil Campbell Friday.
