RED BAY – With his team tied 12-12 at halftime, Red Bay coach Dale Jeffreys made a few adjustments.
He said he talked to the defense about tackling better and he drew up a few plays on offense. One thing he didn't change much was the running game.
"We ran right at them and had success," Jeffreys said. "It was conservative, but we moved the ball."
To say the Tigers moved the ball would be an understatement as they rolled up 388 yards against the Hornets. Tailback Cody Armstrong gained 71 percent of those yards.
Armstrong carried the ball 45 times for 275 yards and three touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
Not bad for a player who was not at 100 percent.
"He was sick all night and his arms were beat up," Jeffreys said. "He had a hard time holding onto the ball."
While Armstrong did lose two fumbles, neither led to a Hatton score.
Armstrong tied the game at 6-6, scoring his first touchdown on a 1-yard run with 57 seconds remaining in the first half.
Both teams exchanged quick touchdowns before the half to tie the game 12-12.
Armstrong gave the Tigers their first lead with 9:28 remaining in the game on a 2-yard run and added to it with a 10-yard touchdown run six minutes later. He also scored on the two-point conversion to push the lead to 26-12.
