DECATUR The administration of East Central Community College may be working with less money then it expected to have this time last year, but
its president promises quality will not diminish.
The college's board of directors approved a $12.7 million budget for fiscal year 2002, about $1.3 million less than the current budget. The new budget year begins July 1.
The Mississippi Junior College Activities Association also cut one-tenth of the games for all varsity sports. That means the East Central football team will only play nine games, eliminating its opener against rival East Mississippi Community College.
The basketball teams and baseball teams will not be playing as many inter-divisional games this season, which will cut back on travel.
In another matter, Sutphin said enrollment for the upcoming fall semester looks promising. The college had about 2,230 students in class last fall.
Also, Sutphin reported that an additional grant has been given to the college for improvements to the Dick Livingston Recreational/Study Trail.
