PC wins South Franklin Tournament

PHIL CAMPBELL – The Phil Campbell varsity softball team won the South Franklin Invitational Tournament last Saturday by defeating Mars Hill and Tharptown.
In pool play, Tharptown beat the Lady Bobcats 4-2 as Jess Myrick went five innings with nine strikeouts and five hits allowed. Phil Campbell also lost to Mt. Hope 3-2 as the Lady Yellow Jackets pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
In tournament play, Phil Campbell beat Mars Hill 10-2 as the Lady Bobcats opened with five runs in the first inning and held the Lady Panthers scoreless until a two-run fourth. Kim Clark pitched the victory and went five innings with three strikeouts and six hits allowed.
Shaela Pace went 2-for-2 for Phil Campbell with a walk, double and run scored. Chasity Morgan went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Amber Chaney went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a walk.
In the championship game, Phil Campbell downed Tharptown 4-3 as Clark (8-9) went seven innings with 12 hits allowed and one strikeout.
The Lady Bobcats led 4-1 after six innings and withstood a two-run rally from Tharptown in the top of the seventh.
Chaney led Phil Campell with two hits and a run scored, while Hollie Hines homered and scored for Tharptown.
