Vina baseball blanks Belgreen

VINA – The Class 1A, Area 16 matchup between the Vina and Belgreen was a pitcher's duel as sophomore Brent Townsend led the Red Devils to a 2-0 victory Monday.
Townsend pitched a complete-game shutout for Vina (6-9) with seven strikeouts, while the Bulldogs' Justin Gardner took the loss despite giving up only two hits. Vina broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh by socring on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk.

CHEROKEE – Stephen Lacey knocked out his third homer this season as the Phil Campbell varsity baseball team beat Cherokee 5-0 in Class 2A, Area 16 action Monday.
Lacey also earned the victory on the mound by striking out 10 and scattering four hits. Caleb Thompson drove in two runs and Jonathan Dill added two hits and one RBI for the Bobcats (12-6, 3-1).

Belgreen 2
BELGREEN – The Phil Campbell varsity softball team came back from a 2-1 deficit in the top of the sixth inning to beat Belgreen 6-2 Monday.
Kim Clark (6-6) pitched a complete game for the Lady Bobcats with one earned run, three strikeouts and six hits, while Belgreen's Martha Billingham struck out four while allowing nine hits and five walks.
Amber Hutcheson went 3-for-3 with two doubles to lead Phil Campbell. Hannah Nix went 2-for-2 with two walks, while Chasity Morgan went 2-for-4 with a run scored, single and double. Deborah Billingham went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two doubles for Belgreen.
