LITTLEVILLE – Thursday's sunny skies at Twin Pines Country Club were an omen for the Russellville boys golf team as they played almost as splendidly as the weather in defeating Shoals Christian 150 to 153.
Medalist honors were shared by RHS Black team members John Seal and Brett Fish as they finished the front nine at a 1-over-par 36. Ben Wood at 37 and Trent Alexander at 38 led the way for Shoals Christian.
The other scores on the RHS Black squad included Brian Brown and TJ Seagraves at 39 and EJ Fisher at 45.
The RHS Gold team shot a team score of 174 with Will Bragwell leading the pack with 39 followed by Ty Trapp at 41, Taylor Reeps at 46, Trea Mosley at 48 and Nick Ross at 51.
With a mixture of youth and experience, the Golden Tigers are hopeful of another successful season on the links. Bragwell,a seventh grader, along with eighth grader Ty Trapp, are the only two golfers on the team who are still at Russellville Middle School.
"I felt pretty good, and my swing was on tempo," Bragwell said. "I had a couple of chances to shoot better during the round but I didn't take advantage of it."
Bragwell said that he has been playing seriously for only a year and a half.
Russellville golf fans hope that Bragwell, Trapp and the rest of the youngsters on the team continue to develop and carry on the tradition of Golden Tiger golf.
