Monday night I was flipping through the channels trying to find something good to watch on TV.
We are having revival at church this week so it was pretty late, but I still thought there might be something good on. There wasn't.
So I went to check the DVR, which is programmed to record certain shows each time they run, or at least the first time they run. Still nothing.
It has been that way pretty much since Christmas.
I have to admit, we probably watch a little too much TV, especially for people who really don't have the time for it. But, that's the beauty of the digital video recorder.
You can record almost any show that you want and then watch it back commercial free. So, for example, if we wanted to watch my favorite show, The Office, we could do so in about 20 minutes, not 30.
But ever since the writers went on strike late last year there have been no new episodes to record. Everything is a re-run, or worse, reality TV.
There is a reality show for almost everything you can imagine right now. There is a couple that I like, but they are not that far-fetched. I like Donald Trump's The Apprentice and I like to watch Deal or No Deal every now and then.
I even started watching The Biggest Loser this season, but only because two former Alabama football players are contestants. Still, though, we only watch the recorded version of that. We never watch an episode of anything as it airs.
Reality shows, however you watch them, are still in no way s enjoyable as watching a good sit-com or drama.
I am ready for new episodes to start hitting the screen soon. The writers recently ended their strike but it will still be sometime before the re-runs are put to rest.
Until they do I guess I will have to keep checking the DVR for something new each night.
Or worst-case scenario, I have to turn to new ways to spend time, like reading a book.
