Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow, D-Red Bay, will travel to Kiev, Ukraine with a trade delegation from Alabama.
He will accompany Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks and other Alabama officials on the trade mission.
"I'm excited to join the Alabama delegation on this trip, and I look forward to being a part of something that is extremely important to Alabama," Morrow said.
The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, along with the Southern United States Trade Association and the United States Department of Agriculture, will be participating in the Food Expo 2008 in the Ukraine. The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries has actively recruited those qualified Alabama companies to participate in the show.
"When we trade with other countries, it helps support our local farmers, local businesses, and it's great for Alabama's economy," Morrow said.
Products from all over Alabama will be seen and tasted in Kiev next week. Sparks, Morrow and Rep. Butch Taylor, will be leading a group of Alabama agricultural companies to Kiev.
These companies will be meeting with poultry, pork, and pet food manufacturers and importers. The trade mission overlaps with the Ukrainian Poultry Union trade show and annual meeting. Besides food products such as snack foods, sauces, syrups, condiments and pet foods, there is a focus on the poultry industry, complimentary poultry industry products, and various agricultural equipment possibly being sold to the Ukraine.
Morrow was recently named a member of Rural Alabama's Committee of 100, which serves as an advisory council to the Center for Rural Alabama under the Department of Agriculture and Industries. The group's mission is to promote and implement sound strategies to improve the way of life in rural areas of Alabama.
