PC church using library as ministry

PHIL CAMPBELL-First Baptist Church of Phil Campbell members hope that a renovated and revived library can be used as a resourceful ministry tool.
The church re-opened the library during a ceremony this week and staff members hope to see renewed interest in the facility.
Doris Hutchenson, director of libraries for the Franklin County Baptist Association, said the church has had a library for several years, but it had been put on the back burner for a while and has been reorganized for church members and the public.
"Librarian Mabel Herring, Barbara Peppers, Janet Savage and I began working on this in August, and the dedication service was held last week," Hutcheson said.
All of the materials in the church library have been reclassified and many of the older books have been weeded out of circulation.
"There were some very old items on the shelves and they had to be pulled," Hutcheson said.
Church members hope the library can be a useful tool to help spread the message of Jesus Christ.
"The library contains a lot of Christian reference materials and some Christian fiction as well," she said.
The library will be open to the public on Wednesday afternoons from 1 – 3 p.m. each week.
"It's more than just a room full of books," Hutchenson said. "It's about sharing the message of Jesus Christ."
