Red Bay councilman stepping down

RED BAY – Red Bay City councilman Rayford Seahorn resigned his position Wednesday morning, one month after he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence near Red Bay.
Seahorn said he resigned for personal reasons, adding he may be moving for employment purposes.
"At this time, I feel like it's [resigning] the best for the city and for myself to step down," Seahorn said.
The resignation ends Seahorn's second term in office. He first served as councilman from 1992 to 1996, and was re-elected in 2004.
Mayor Jeff Reid said a replacement will be voted on by the council.
The city has 60 days to fill the vacancy before the task falls to the governor.
"We will need someone who has served before because it is so late in the term," Reid said. "We don't have time to teach a new council member what to do and the proper procedures."
Reid added that Seahorn will be greatly missed by the city but he understands his need to move on with his life. Seahorn was scheduled to go to court on the DUI charges next week on Jan. 16, but the court date has been moved to February, officials said.
Seahorn made no additional statement about his DUI.
