Members of First Baptist Church of Russellville are spending this week getting ready for their annual Christmas program, which will be presented on Sunday and Monday nights to the public.
Dramatic Director Lela Ray said church and cast members have been working on the dramatic performance since October, and are looking forward to presenting it to the public early next week.
The, Ray said, play will tell the biblical story of the birth of Christ but with a modern twist.
"We are telling a modern-day story of a couple in college who find they are having a baby unexpectedly," she said.
The modern-day storyline will mimic a traditional, Biblical storyline featuring Mary and Joseph.
"The story shows that just because an event is unexpected doesn't mean that it's always a bad thing," Ray said.
The drama portion will be combined with music from the choir.
Choir member Lynn Sudduth said the choir has been working on music since early September in preparation of the upcoming performance.
The choir, soloist and trio members will sing nine songs during the performance.
The first performance will be Sunday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. with a second performance scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
"We welcome anyone to come and be a part of our Christmas celebration this year," Ray said.
