A Moulton man is back in custody after briefly escaping from the Franklin County Jail Monday afternoon.
Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said Chris Braley, 32, of Moulton, left the jail while a hold from Winston County was being processed.
"He was being released when we learned that he was wanted by the Haleyville Police Department," Plott said. "After he was notified that he could not be released, Mr. Braley left the jail while the paperwork was being processed."
Braley had been in the Franklin County Jail due to his failure to pay old tickets and bad checks.
Plott said Braley was wanted by the Haleyville Police Department for writing bad checks.
Braley was found and remanded to custody later Monday night, only a few hours after he left the county lock-up.
Braley has been charged with second-degree escape and remains in the Franklin County Jail.
According to the Alabama Criminal Code, second-degree escape is a Class C felony, which is punishable by one year and one day to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
