Kim West
Franklin County Times
Name: Dr. Carrie DeArman
Hometown/High School: Russellville
Birthday: June 18, 1977
Position/Employer: Pharmacist and co-owner, Hometown Pharmacy
Family: Married to Mark DeArman; parents Wyman and Roxann Pounders; sister, Dr. Christy Pounders
FCT: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
CA: When I can help people. It's a lot different when you don't know people (in a corporate setting), but if you know them, you really want to help in any way you can.
FCT: What are the most common prescriptions you fill?
CA: Prescriptions for blood pressure, cholesterol, pain medications and antibiotics – it's definitely getting into that season now.
FCT: What has been the biggest challenge since opening three months ago?
CA: Probably the biggest thing has been setting up contracts with the insurance companies, because it's very complicated and they're used to dealing with corporations.
FCT: How did you meet your husband?
CA: We met in high school, and we both went to Auburn. In addition to handling all of the business-related work here, he works full-time at Burns Nursing Home (as an assistant administrator).
FCT: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
CA: We love to travel. I don't know when we'll have time to travel again, but we visited British Columbia last April, and we try and go snow skiing once a year. We've been doing that since we were in college. And we're trying to save money to visit Italy, because we've never been there and I would love to visit for our 10-year anniversary (in 2010).
