BELGREEN – Belgreen School held a special Veteran's Day program Thursday afternoon honoring local veterans and thanking them for their work preserving and spreading freedom.
Seven veterans were on hand as student, faculty and staff celebrated their freedoms and honored the men and women who fight to preserve it.
The Belgreen choir kicked off the program by singing "The Star Spangled Banner" followed by a medley of patriotic songs including "Yankee Doodle," "America," and "Stars and Stripes Forever."
Choir Director Karle Hardin talked about what freedom means to her and how she could never thank the servicemen and women enough.
"I get very emotional when I talk about our freedom and all that you have done to keep us free," Hardin said. "I know that I could never thank you enough."
Hardin talked about seeing photographs from her father's trunk when he was a war in World War II, and how seeing those photographs impacted her at a very young age.
A power point presentation of images from all the wars that fought for freedom being with the Revolutionary War was accompanied by Billy's Entrekin's recorded song, Heroes.
"Billy could not be here today due to a family death, but he asked that I play the song 'Heroes' and I could think of a better place to play it than with this presentation," Hardin said.
Five seniors from Democracy read patriotic passages including one about why the flag is folded 13 times, and student Jacob Green performed "American Soldier," and "If You Are Reading This."
