Dempsey's litter program a smart move for county

By Staff
Franklin County Circuit Judge Terry Dempsey announced this week that defendants will be ordered to clean one mile of roadway in the county as part of their probation, community corrections and drug court sentence.
The defendants will be required to keep the roadway clean as a condition of their sentence until their sentence is served in full.
Failure to fulfill this requirement may result in a violation of the original sentence, and a defendant could face probation revocation and land back in jail.
The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, the Franklin County Solid Waste Department and the Russellville Police Department, as well as civic organizations, have been working on the garbage problem in the county.
Dempsey's plan will help these organizations with their crusade to clean up the county.
A clean community is an essential element to ensure prosperity and economic growth.
We thank Dempsey for his decision to help our community grow and prosper by finding a way to help clean up our county and keep it that way.
This was a previously untapped resource, and we're pleased to see it being put to work.
