The Franklin County C.I.T.Y. Program received a grant from the Northwest Alabama Resource Conservation Development (RC&D) Monday to purchase new computers for their classrooms.
Program Director Ramona Roberson said that she applied for the grant in May, and received the check Monday to purchase the new equipment.
"The computers will be used for our Failure Free Reading Program and for GED prep work," Roberson said.
She added that their Failure Free Reading Program targets students on lower reading levels and helps them achieve grade level reading.
The program received a total of $1,455 from RC&D, which will be used to purchase two computers, a printer, speakers and two two-way radios for the staff use.
The C.I.T.Y. program is a state-funded program for students who have been referred by the court system. The program prepares the students for public school re-entry, the GED exam or to find a job.
Roberson said the program accepts 60 students annually, and there are only 10 such programs in the state to date.
