PHIL CAMPBELL – Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) secured $250,000 in federal funding for the Phil Campbell campus of Northwest Shoals Community College.
Aderholt said that the funding, which is included in the 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education appropriations bill, passed the house Thursday by a vote of 276 to 140.
"I'm pleased to support the work that is being done at the Phil Campbell of Northwest Shoals Community College under the leadership of Dr. Humphrey Lee," Aderholt said.
He added that the college is providing real educational opportunities for its students.
The money will be used to help update the campus to provide better service to the students and produce graduates with skills in information technology. The college will build SMART classrooms to enhance the academic and vocational services the school already has, Aderholt said.
The bill is scheduled to go before the U.S. Senate before being passed into law. No time-table has been released as to when the Senate will vote on the bill, Aderholt's office said.
