Vina's ready to throw a big party

By Staff
Melissa Cason, Franklin County Times
Vina is a town in Franklin County.
The community was named for the wife of a railroad engineer
The latitude of Vina is 34.376N. The longitude is -88.058W.
It is in the Central Standard time zone. Elevation is 682 feet.
The estimated population, in 2003, was 398.
So, we've established that the town is small and about where it's located if you need a GPS, but the one thing the above facts don't tell you is that Vina knows how to have a good time.
The small town of Vina is gearing up for their annual July Fest. There will be arts and crafts booths as well as fun inflatable activities for the kids, in addition to their annual drawing held during the event.
A $100 donation to the Vina Rescue Squad is required in order to enter the drawing, but the prizes are huge.
The grand-prize winner will get their choice of a new vehicle or $17,000 in cold, hard cash.
Granted, there can only be one grand-prize winner, but there will be an additional $1,400 in cash and prizes given away through the drawing.
And, every 25th name drawn gets their money back or it can be entered again to win a bigger prize.
Think about it.
The worst that can happen is that you donate $100 to a worthy cause.
The best that can happen is that donation comes back to you 1700 times over.
If drawings aren't your thing, there will be plenty of other things to do.
There will be free music and fireworks at 10 p.m. at the fire department, and with all the proceeds going to help buy needed equipment for the rescue squad, what a better way to spend a Saturday? Vina is a small, close-knit community with tons of potential, and everyone in this county should support them the same way the Watermelon Festival and Red Bay's Founder's Festival is supported. Vina's July Fest is sure to be a great time for the entire family July 28. I encourage everyone to go out and have a good time.
