Boy Scouts will be Scouting for Food' Saturday

By By Sharon White/The Meridian Star
Scouts from about 40 Troops and Packs throughout Lauderdale County are planning a mission on Dec. 2, and it's anything but secret.
They will be "Scouting for Food" in area neighborhoods as part of an effort to collect canned goods to help feed needy families during the holidays.
The food will be delivered to Meridian fire departments, from where it will be distributed to four community agencies.
The Scouts are from the Choctaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Cubs and Scouts will be dropping off bags at homes in a number of Meridian area neighborhoods on Friday, Dec. 1, and returning the next day for pickups, Tingle said.
Wesley House Community Center, the Salvation Army, LOVE's Kitchen and Hilltop House for Girls and Boys all agencies supported by the United Way of Lauderdale County will be recipients of the canned and nonperishable items.
Meridian Police Department officers will be patrolling areas where the Scouts and Cubs plan to visit, Tingle said.
Should a home be overlooked, he said families willing to take part in the food drive are encouraged to drop off food at any Meridian fire department.
To find out more about the Boy Scouts of America, call 693-6757 or visit the Choctaw Area Council office at 2401 Ninth St.
