For the past dozen or so years, the biggest baseball weekend of the Meridian Community College season has been when Delgado Community College of New Orleans comes to town.
While it is still a big deal, MCC head coach Russ McNickle says he is looking at this weekend's three-game Miss-Lou Conference series a little differently.
The Dolphins of Delgado come into MCC's Scaggs Field for today's 1 p.m. doubleheader in desperate search of wins.
MCC leads the Miss-Lou with a 4-2 record, while Delgado and Bossier are both 4-5 after splitting six games with each other. Meridian has already played all six of its road conference games.
The only conference games left are this weekend's three-game set and Bossier's three-game matchup up at MCC next weekend.
MCC is 26-11 overall.
The Eagles have been getting good production in particular from the middle of the order. Freshman third baseman Tyler Scarbrough began the week hitting .383 and is second on the team in RBIs.
Scarbrough bats fifth for MCC, while Antion Gray who has 15 doubles hits third. Dustin Cliburn, with 11 homers, bats fourth.
Martin LaRocca (5-2) will get the start in the first game today, while Brian Reed (4-1) will start the nightcap. Saturday's single game will see the Eagles send Jason Wimberly (3-1) to the mound.
McNickle said the bullpen work of Curt McLellan, Michael Goodson and Adam Smith has been outstanding.
