Obituaries for Monday, June 14, 2004

Graveside services for George C. Rawson Jr. were to be held today at 10 a.m. at Enterprise Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Boles officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rawson, 66, of Meridian, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Guardian Angel Hospice.
Survivors include his mother, Virginia Leonard Barnes of Meridian; sisters, Kay Kiker of York, Ala. and Muriel Phillips of Meridian; and a brother, James Rawson.
Pallbearers were Ricky Durham, Billy Ray Ivy, Tommy Phillips and Douglas Kiker.

NEWTON Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. for Palmer McCurdy at New Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Rowzee officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McCurdy, 86, of Annandale, Va., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
Mr. McCurdy received his engineering degree from Stanford University in Stanford, Calif. He did his post-graduate work at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Cmdr. in 1952. At that time he was a gunnery officer at the Naval Air Station at Patuxent River, Md. He began his career as a research chemical engineer with Shell Development of Oakland, Calif. He worked for General Electric Research and Development and Ramo Wooldridge, in Woodland Hills, Calif. He also lived in Phoenix, Norco, La. and Annandale, Va. He was a member and the historian of the Mensa Society.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Emma Boggan McCurdy and a son, Kim Palmer McCurdy.
Pallbearers will be Noflet Bogan, Greg Boggan, Charles Boggan, Matthew Boggan, Frank Boggan and Wallace Bogan.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

NEWTON Services for Elvy Willis Hollingsworth will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hilton Moore officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hollingsworth, 98, of Decatur, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Okahatta Nursing Care Center in Decatur. She was a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church. She graduated from Forest High School and attended University of Southern Mississippi. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother that loved to play the piano for everyone.
Survivors include her daughters, Clera Hughes and her husband, Harold, of New Orleans, Glenda Davis and her husband, Johnny, of Decatur, Mary Jo Chanaud of Centerville, Md. and Jean Bryan and her husband, Earl, of Newton; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.D. Hollingsworth; her parents, James M. and Emma Amis Willis; a daughter, Emma Jean Hollingsworth; sisters, Myrtle Manning Ovanda Red; brothers, Irvin and James R. Willis; two sons-in-law, Lincoln Laird and Stewart Chanaud.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be Tuesday 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements were incomplete at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home for Deloris Garner, 74, of Meridian, who died Sunday, June 13, 2004, in her home.
Arrangements were incomplete at Stephens Funeral Home for William J. Garrett, 68, of Meridian, who died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Riley Hospital.
Arrangements were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for Janie M. Ross, 92, of Lauderdale, who died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Center.
