Lady Eagles sweep East Mississippi

In their first year of fast-pitch softball, the East Mississippi Lady Lions had only played four games heading into their doubleheader with the Lady Eagles from Meridian Community College Friday afternoon at Northeast Park.
The Lady Lions came out with hopes of sweeping the home standing Lady Eagles, but Meridian took both games by finals of
2-1 and 10-1.
EMCC head coach Pam Moore was proud of the effort put forth by her team.
Meridian 2, East Mississippi 1 (Game One): Meridian jumped out to the early 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning thanks to a two run home run by Auriel Jenkins which also scored Stephanie Dixon. Kayla Murphy, who reached on a base hit scored East Mississippi's only run. Ryan Reid picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Eagles.
Meridian 10, East Mississippi 1 (Game Two): The second game was tied at one until Meridian took charge in the top half of the fifth inning to take the 10-1 win. Michelle Booth scored EMCC's only run of the second game as she scored off a single.
Lakenya Wilson nailed a grand slam home run over the left center field wall in the fifth inning gave the Lady Eagles the win on the eight run rule.
Wilson was 1-for-4 with the grand slam and a single.
Robin Holland, Amy Adcox, Jenkins, Layla Brewer, Ashleigh Hicks, and Ryan Reid all went 1-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Eagles. Dreka Shumpert was 1-for-2.
Adcox picked up the win on the mound for Meridian.
The Lady Eagles will face Georgia Perimeter in a doubleheader today at Northeast Park beginning at 2:30 p.m.
The Lady Lions will host Itawamba on Monday at 1 p.m.
