A Lauderdale County teenager died Monday night in a local hospital and her twin sister remained in serious condition after a single-vehicle accident on Russell Topton Road.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said Heather Eggleston, 15, of the Russell community, was pronounced dead about 10 p.m. It was the third fatality on county roads this year.
Calhoun said Eggleston was driving on Russell Topton Road, just north of Charlie Dunn Road, when her vehicle apparently left the roadway and struck a large pine tree.
