State Games next for Dixie Lanes

After a brief respite, tournament action returns this weekend as the State Games of Mississippi bowling competition takes place at Dixie Bowl Lanes. All bowling is done scratch within six separate average divisions.
Adults will bowl six games across three pairs; youth bowlers will compete in a four-game format on two pairs. Shift times will be at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and 12 and 2 p.m. Sunday. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in each division and by sex.
Remember, you only bowl against those in your average division. This means a person with a 150 average won't be competing against bowlers who average 180 or 200. Everyone has a chance to take home a medal.
You still have time to get your entries in and we need your support. We have fewer out-of-town entries in bowling than any other sport featured in the games so local support is critical if we are to keep bowling in the State Games.
You may contact Shayne Barfield, Commissioner or Tournament Directors Lisa Barfield or Jason Pierce if you have any questions or need any help. You may also turn in you entries at the counter at Dixie Bowl. Any employee will be glad to assist you any way we can.
In July, Stan's Classic Tournaments 8-game Sweeper returns to the lanes with action on Sunday, July 15 at Dixie Bowl. Following that will be the 2nd Annual Handicap Doubles Tournament running each weekend beginning Friday, Aug. 1 through Labor Day.
This year the tournament is offering a guaranteed first place payout of $4000. You may bowl as often as you like and may compete with up to three partners each time you bowl. Optional events will include High Game Pots and Brackets. The High Game Pots will be for the overall tournament; brackets will run for each squad.
Ladies, don't forget the 39th Annual MWBA workshop is slated to be held at Battlefield Inn at Vicksburg on Saturday, Aug. 9. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. The workshop will be followed by a Singles Handicap No-Tap Tournament at Red Carpet Lanes.
You must attend the workshop in order to be eligible to compete in the tournament. Entry forms are available at Dixie Bowl Lanes.
Pre-registration is required for the Workshop and Luncheon. You may enter the tournament that day if you choose.
In local summer league action, Mike Cothern had the high game of the week for the guys with a 256 while Denise Rutledge carded a 277 to lead the gals.
Rusty Powell picked up the rare triplicate during action in the Tuesday Summer Mixed league.
That's all for this week. Until next week . . . Good luck and good bowling!
