A pair of Amtrak tickets will be one of several items given away at Saturday's opening of the Union Station Railroad Museum.
After an overwhelming interest in the museum from visitors attending last month's Railfest and Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Festival, organizers decided to open the museum on the first and third Saturday of each month.
The city of Meridian has completed a master plan for the inside of the museum and is in the process of applying for grants and seeking funds for the design and fabrication of displays.
The public is invited to donate rare and unique items of interest and attend Saturday's 10 a.m.-4 p.m. special opening in the former REA building on Front Street.
Several railroad historical societies will hold their quarterly meeting in Meridian on Saturday and the popular Smokey City Trails Club from Birmingham, Ala., will have its modular train layout on display.
