Rex Hiatt announces plans to retire

Longtime Lauderdale County Administrator Rex Hiatt said Thursday that he plans to retire soon but he hasn't set a specific date.
Hiatt, 55, has served as county administrator for more than 20 years.
The county administrator is responsible for purchasing and preparing the county budget. He also helps people who need copies of county records and information about possible county jobs.
Hiatt, a former educator, said he originally applied for the county administrator job after it was advertised. Hiatt said several supervisors have asked if he has any recommendations for a replacement.
He said he is sure many qualified candidates will seek the position.
Hiatt said he would rather have discussed his retirement when he set a date. But at a supervisor's meeting Thursday, District 5 Supervisor Ray Boswell mentioned Hiatt would not be back next year.
