Bobcat girls lock up home court advantage in area

The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats picked up two area wins this past week to lock up the home court advantage in the area tournament in February. The Bobcats defeated Colbert Heights 49-20 and Colbert County 51-40.

In the Colbert Heights game, the Bobcats dominated the first quarter, racing out to a 16-1 lead. Phil Campbell extended the lead to 28-7 at halftime and 39-13 by the end of the third quarter.

Madison Branch led the Bobcats with 18 points, scoring six in the first, four in the second and eight in the third. She was followed by Macy Hardy with 12 points, with eight coming in the first quarter.

Hannah Welborn added eight points, Layla Baker six points, Allie Herring three points and Sidda Rogers two points.

In the Colbert County game, Branch and Hardy combined for 33 points to lead the Bobcats to the win.

Phil Campbell led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter, and the Bobcats pulled away in the second quarter, with Hardy dropping three three-pointers and Kaylie Motes and Herring making one three each.

Branch led the Bobcats with 19 points, scoring seven in the second quarter and eight in the fourth quarter.

Hardy scored 14 points, scoring seven in the first quarter.

Herring, Motes and Welborn added six points each.
