Libby Liberty kicks off county’s Super Citizens program

Libby Liberty stepped off her pedestal and performed in front of 375 Franklin County students Aug. 18 at Belgreen High School to help kick off their Super Citizen experience. Over the coming months, students will be engaged in lessons of civic responsibility, financial literacy, character development and career exploration.

Wearing green paper crowns and waving tiny American flags, the students cheered enthusiastically.

After class photos with Libby, students and teachers returned to their classrooms to learn crucial all-American lessons. Soon they’ll begin the process of nominating “Helping Hands Heroes,” who they will honor at their graduation celebration when the program is complete for this year.

“This is a wonderful program that our second-graders across the county really enjoy each year,” explained Belgreen High School principal Megean Berryman. “Not only is it fun and entertaining, but it is also a very educational program that our students learn a lot from.”

Berryman expressed her gratitude for getting to host the district program at Belgreen.

“We would like to thank Superintendent Greg Hamilton for allowing us to have the program and Mr. Thigpen for organizing this for our students,” she said. “We’d like to thank our sponsors and special guests for making this possible.”
