Phil Campbell girls get first area win
The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats broke a tie game in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 40-35 area win over the Danville Lady Hawks.
Phil Campbell and Danville were tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats were able to gain a slight advantage in the second quarter to take a 19-16 halftime lead.
The Hawks flipped the script in the third quarter to tie the game again at 28-28.
Phil Campbell was able to outpace Danville in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hawks 12-7.
Kenner Scott led the way for the Bobcats, scoring 17 points. Scott hit three three-pointers in the second half and pulled down seven rebounds.
Madison Branch followed with 12 points. Jade Roberson added five points. Faith Cook had three points and pulled down eight rebounds. Allie Herring and Kaylie Motes finished with two points and one point, respectively.
Phil Campbell 41, Belgreen 27
The Phil Campbell Bobcats dominated the Belgreen Bulldogs in the first half Saturday night and cruised to a 41-27 win.
The Phil Campbell girls led Belgreen 8-4 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 20-6 at halftime. The Bobcats led 31-16 at the end of the third quarter. Belgreen cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 10 points with four minutes to go in the game, but that was as close as the Bulldogs would get.
Cook led Phil Campbell with 15 points, followed by Scott with 11 points. Branch finished the game with eight points, Herring six points and Hannah Welborn with two points.
Noelle Willingham led Belgreen with nine points. Carson Hovater added eight points, Dacota Green five points, Isabella Tate three points and McKenna Fisher two points.
Cook scored 15 points in Phil Campbell’s 65-29 loss to Belmont, Miss., earlier in the week.
