Spruce Pine Day, always the third Saturday in October, will be held Oct. 16 at the Spruce Pine Museum and in the downtown area.

Festivities will include food and arts and crafts vendors, as well as a car show and live music. Additionally, the museum will be open to visitors.

“It’s a great way for our community to get together and enjoy the town we all love so much,” said Zack Motes, president of the Spruce Pine Historical Society.

Registration for the car show, which costs $20, will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m.

“We always have a big turnout for the car show, usually including people from several counties,” said Motes.

Starting at 9:30 a.m., for those registered as part of the show, there will be a drawing for $50 every 15 minutes until 2 p.m. The final cash giveaway drawings will be for $100 and $150.

The only trophy of the day will be given to the person whose car is voted to be the favorite by the car show participants.

“We’re looking forward to a lot of folks coming out for the car show,” said car show coordinator Bill Herring.

Food options will be varied, with five food vendors, including three food trucks, a vendor for roasted corn and one for bakery items. There will be 25 arts and crafts and clothing vendors, and four local businesses will be set up with small job fairs.

Others scheduled to have booths include two local churches and a school. The bean dinner prepared by members of the Spruce Pine Historical Society will also resume this year.

“We’ll have T-shirts for sale, local bands are donating their time, and we’re hoping for nice weather,” said vendor coordinator Shannon Pike. “We’re expecting the festival to be bigger and better this year. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people in the area to get out and enjoy being outside and having a fun day together.”

Gail Motes, entertainment coordinator, will also serve as emcee, announcing the bands and door prize giveaways throughout the day. To have the chance of winning a door prize, a ticket is required, but tickets are free.

Musical entertainment is scheduled as follows:

• 9-10 a.m. – Joyful Noise
• 10-11 a.m. – Adam McCollum on harmonica/guitar
• 11 a.m. to noon – Dana Hill
• 12-1 p.m. – Jerry Martin and Pure Diamond
• 1-2 p.m. – Jacob Green
• 2-3 p.m. – Joseph Baldwin Band
• 3-4 p.m. – Joe King

Tickets for a gun drawing are $10 each, and there will be three drawings: The first winner will receive a Taurus G2C 9mm pistol; the second winner will receive a Citadel Boss Hog Semi-Auto 12; and the third winner will receive a Rossi Gallery .22 LR Pump.
