Mitchell double propels Tharptown
Jayden Mitchell scorched a double into left field, scoring Braden Malone and Britton Kennamore, to lead the Tharptown Wildcats past the Winston County Yellow Jackets 4-2 March 7.
Mitchell’s double came in the bottom of the third with Tharptown on top 1-0. The Wildcats had picked up a run in the first inning when Hunter White scored on a wild pitch to put Tharptown on top 1-0.
Mitchell’s double put the Wildcats up 4-0.
The Yellow Jackets scored two in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 4-2.
Winston County outhit Tharptown six hits to three, but the Wildcats were able to capitalize on two Yellow Jacket errors.
White scored two runs in the game. Kennamore went two-for-three with a run scored. Mitchell had three RBIs.
Mitchell also pitched six and one-third innings, striking out 10 batters and giving up four hits.
In other action, Tharptown lost a heartbreaker to East Lawrence 7-6. The Eagles won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off single.
The Wildcats held a 4-0 through three and a half innings, but the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Tharptown scored two in the top of the seventh to tie the game.
Mitchell went three-for-four with a double and scored a run. White had a hit and an RBI and scored two runs.
Kennamore went two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored. Blake Daily had two hits and an RBI.
Hunter Motes had a hit and an RBI.
