In the midst of a whirlwind that has seen a multitude of young men further their football playing careers, a young lady has gotten her turn with the proverbial pen and paper to further an athletic life.
Ramey Rush, a standout athlete in the Meridian Public School system and Meridian-area sports her entire life, will sign a four-year scholarship today with a school her family is familiar with, to play the sport she is best at.
Rush will ink a national letter-of-intent to play soccer for Steve Holeman's Ole Miss Lady Rebels this afternoon at Meridian High School.
Rush said there were out-of-state schools courting her, but in the end the decision was one of practicality.
Even though she is an adept softball player, Rush said she never even considered playing anything else in college.
Rush is a pivotal cog in coach Pat Ross' Lady Wildcat squad, that is seeking its first Class 5A State Championship. Tuesday night, the Lady Cats forged out a close shootout win over a big rival in Brandon. They will now play Harrison Central for the South State Championship this Friday in Jackson.
Ross has called Rush one his team's biggest leaders. "She leads our team on the field as well as off, but she's also a team player. She'll fit in well with the Ole Miss program."
