Bulldog teams rack up wins

Both the Bulldog girls and boys are showing their dominance on the court with wins over nearby opponents in the past week.

GIRLS

Autumn Bragwell continued to light it up from beyond the three-point arch, draining seven three-pointers – including six in the first half alone – to lead Belgreen to a 62-57 win over Winfield.

Bragwell scored 18 of the Bulldogs’ 33 first-half points.

Belgreen led 13-12 at the end of the first quarter. Ansley Tate scored nine points in the second quarter as the Bulldogs extended their lead to 33-27.

Belgreen increased that lead to 46-38 at the end of the third quarter. Emma Dempsey scored nine of Belgreen’s 16 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Bragwell led all scorers with 21 points. Tate and Dempsey followed with 17 points each. Gracie Dempsey finished with seven points.

Belgreen remains undefeated on the season.

Versus Hackleburg Friday, the Lady Bulldogs put up 61 points to top the Lady Panthers.

Emma Dempsey led Belgreen with 22 points, including 14 in the first half. Tate and Bragwell followed with 15 points and 14 points respectively. Gracie Dempsey finished with six points, and Katie Dempsey tallied four points.

BOYS

The Belgreen Bulldogs swept the Hackleburg Panthers Friday night, with the boys – led by Scout Bragwell and Will Bonner – snatching a 68-24 blowout win over the Panthers.

Bragwell led with 15 points, and Bonner followed with 13 points.

The game was never in doubt, with Belgreen jumping out to a 39-8 halftime lead.

Alex Betts added nine points. Canaan Stough had seven points. Collin Bonner and Bryant Hubbert scored six points each. Will Donohoe and Isac Willingham added four points each. Brodie Vandiver had two points.

The Belgreen Bulldogs picked up another big win Saturday to remain undefeated, beating the Deshler Tigers 72-71.

Will Bonner and Bragwell combined for 44 points in the game, with Bonner going eight for nine from the free-throw line, including six clutch free throws down the stretch, and Bragwell nailing four three-pointers.

Belgreen jumped out to a big 24-8 lead in the first quarter, powered by Bryant Hubbert.

Deshler rallied back in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 22-14 to cut Belgreen’s lead to 38-30 at halftime.

Deshler outscored Belgreen 41-34 in the second half, but the Bulldogs held off the Tigers for the win.

Collin Bonner added eight points, Willingham four points and Will Donohoe two points.

The boys got their winning weekend started versus Winfield Thursday, where Will Bonnner dropped 25 points on the Pirates to help lead the Belgreen Bulldogs to a 65-49 win.

Will Bonner scored 10 of his points in the fourth quarter to ice the game for the Bulldogs.

Belgreen jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 33-16 by halftime. Winfield chipped away a little in the third quarter to cut Belgreen’s lead to 41-30, but a strong shooting fourth quarter by Bonner and the Bulldogs sealed the win.

Bragwell added 12 points for Belgreen, followed by Hubbert’s 11 points and Collin Bonner’s 10 points. Willingham finished the game with seven points.
