Virginia Charles Hooker
Mrs. Virginia Charles Hooker, age 87, of Phil Campbell passed away Nov. 14.
Virginia was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Alabama, a daughter of George Washington Kimbrel and Bertha Butler Kimbrell. She grew up and attended school at Brilliant, where she lived until moving to Michigan in 1952.
While in Michigan she worked in department stores.
She moved to Haleyville in 1981.
She was member of Rock City Church of God. She also enjoyed working as a caregiver to many but especially loved and cared for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Lee Hooker; sister, Mary Demon Williams and her husband, Kenneth; brother, J.C. Kimbrell; and grandsons, David Empel and Tony Meade.
She is survived by her children, Linda Mordecai of Arizona, Jess Hooker and wife Alice of Michigan and Lavelle Mays and husband Roger of Phil Campbell; grandchildren, Debbie (Casey) Martin, Derek (Crystal) Mays, Denise (Nick) Empel-Kazmar, Yvonne Hooker-Clement (Eric), James (Karmyn) Mays, Angelia (Joel) Burchum and Amy (Nick) Vandiver; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and other friends and family.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Morrow and all of the nurses who took such great care of their mother.
Funeral services were held Nov. 17 from Miles Funeral Home. Fred Baccus was the officiating minister.
Derek Mays, James Mays, Keith Tucker, Jake Tucker, Randy Williams and Derek Mays Jr. served as active pallbearers.
