Landing a big one: Local anglers to compete in Nashville

By Bart Moss / For the FCT

A local student fishing team is headed to Tennessee to try their skills in national competition.

Ashleigh Berry and Cade Baker of Phil Campbell will be one of three teams representing the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association at nationals in Tennessee. They will compete in a tournament in Nashville, Tenn., for the chance to win scholarship money to Bethel College and be placed on the school’s fishing team.

Berry and Baker were chosen because the pair won an ASABFA state qualifying tournament at Lake Eufaula in March. In the Eufaula tournament, they won $1,000 each.

Baker also won the Big Fish Award with a weight of 7.47 pounds. He also won an additional $500 scholarship.
