Horner eyes scoring record in county tournament

Southeast Lauderdale coach Joe Miller is banking on Monique Horner breaking the state scoring record in the Lauderdale County Tournament this week.
He just doesn't know who it will be against.
Horner needs only 38 points to break Tarsha Bethley's record of 3,647 points. With Horner averaging 34.3 points a game this season, the record is likely to fall soon.
But there's a twist. Horner said earlier that she wanted to break the record Saturday night against West Lauderdale, the only time in the tournament that the Lady Tigers will play in the late game.
Earlier in the week, Miller went through all of his books and recounted her point totals. In all, he found a difference in 11 points overall for Horner.
Tonight's lineup will pit Horner and her Lady Tigers against Dan Stegall's Northeast Lauderdale squad. The Northeast and Southeast boys will play at 5:30 p.m. In the nightcap, Jody Hurst's girls will take on Clarkdale at 7 p.m. while Duran Clark's Knights will take on Clarkdale at 8:30 p.m.
Friday night's contests will pit Clarkdale versus Southeast in the two early games which start at 4 p.m. The late games will feature Northeast Lauderdale versus West Lauderdale with the girls game set for 7 p.m. and the boys immediately following.
Saturday's game will feature Clarkdale versus Northeast Lauderdale in another 4 p.m. start. The nightcap will feature West Lauderdale versus Southeast starting at 7 p.m.
Admission for the games are $4 or a tournament pass can be bought today for $10. Programs will be sold for $1.
