Vina cross country excels at sectionals

The Vina High School cross country team competed in the 1A/2A Section 3 meet last week at Fairview High School in Cullman. Two runners qualified for the state cross country meet.

Anna Belle Humphres finished 10th and earned All-Section honors. She ran a personal best 23:09 in the 3.5-mile trek. Elizabeth Baty finished 20th, running her best time of the season at 24:15.

“I am very proud of these young ladies,” said Vina coach Paul Humphres. “We started the season with an average team time of 27 (minutes) and finished the season with an average team time of 24:45, improving every week.”

Hailey Cantrell ran her best time of the season (27:28). Other members of the team who achieved PR times in the race were Maddison Mills (26:51) and Sara Scott (26:19).

Also competing for the Red Devils were Rayleigh Guinn, Lacey Scott and McKenzie Lawler.

“These young ladies worked hard all season long,” said Humphres. “They ran their best race at sectionals.”

Anna Belle Humphres and Elizabeth Baty will be competing in the state cross country meet Nov. 11 in Oakville.
