Northeast takes two over SEL

The Trojans of Northeast Lauderdale battled hard and fought for a much-needed 66-65 win over visiting Southeast Lauderdale on Monday night.
With the win, Northeast moves to 3-6 on the year going into the Thanksgiving break.
In girls' action, the Lady Trojans jumped all over Southeast in the first quarter and held on to beat the Lady Tigers 65-48.
The Northeast boys overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and made free throws down the stretch to take the come-from-behind win.
The Trojans jumped out to an early lead and led 14-10 after one quarter. Then the Tigers went on a run. After scoring the final four points of the first quarter, Southeast scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to take a 20-14 lead. The teams played even basketball for much of the second quarter, but the Tigers were able to stretch the lead to 10 points at the half.
Northeast came out with new life in the second half. The Trojans opened up the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to three.
Southeast stretched the lead back out to six points midway through the third quarter and the teams traded baskets for much of the quarter. The Trojans trailed 50-46 at the end of the third.
The Trojans cut the lead to two points on a basket by Alex Ford with 4:18 left to play. The teams traded baskets for the next two minutes and then Southeast stretched the lead back to five with a basket by Windham Campbell and a free throw by LaPatrick Carlisle.
Northeast answered with a big three from Harold Grace to cut the lead back down to two points. Antonio Clayton hit a free throw to cut the lead to one point seconds later. He then missed his second free throw, but Greg Powell got the rebound and went back up for a basket to give Northeast a 60-59 lead.
Southeast struggled a bit after losing two seniors to foul trouble and couldn't get the big baskets it needed.
The Trojans got big free throws from freshman Maurice Langston and Jonathan White to extend the lead to 66-62. Southeast hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the final score 66-65.
Powell finished the game with 19 points to lead Northeast. Grace scored 13 in the victory.
Campbell scored 19 for Southeast in the loss. Chris Gordon and Nehemiah Nwankpah each added in 11. The Tigers dropped to 3-4 on the season with the loss.

Northeast got 30 points from Quin Jackson and 21 points from Shaquita Bell to cruise past Southeast 65-48 on Monday night.
The Lady Trojans jumped out on the Lady Tigers early in the ball game. Northeast outscored Southeast 18-2 in the first six minutes of the first quarter. Jackson and Bell scored all but two of the points for Northeast.
Southeast cut the lead to 18-8 after the first quarter and then, after a Lady Trojans basket, scored four points to cut the lead to eight. Northeast answered with an 18-3 run to stretch the lead out. Southeast trailed 40-19 at the break.
The Lady Trojans stretched the lead out to as many as 26 points in the third quarter and led 57-32 after three quarters of play.
Southeast went on a 12-2 run in the fourth quarter to cut into the lead, but could not overcome the big deficit and lost 65-48 to Northeast.
Northeast improves to 4-6 on the season with the victory. While Southeast drops to 5-3.
Sam Smith led the Lady Tigers with 18 points in the loss.
