Lady Knights, Lady Tigers grab big wins

The West Lauderdale and Southeast girls came away with big wins on the first night of the Lauderdale County Tournament.
The Lady Knights blew away Northeast 65-45 in the first game of the day and Southeast took a 71-43 victory over Clarkdale in the final girls' game of the night.
In girls' action tonight, West Lauderdale will take on Clarkdale at 4 p.m. while Southeast takes on Northeast at 7 p.m.

The Lady Knights got the offense going on Thursday night and went off for a 65-45 win.
West used a good first half of basketball to build a big lead and held on to improve to 4-0 on the season.
West Lauderdale opened the the game with a 10 -2 to build a lead. J.J. Huggins scored eight of the first 10 for the Lady Knights. West finished out the quarter with a 19-8 lead.
After Northeast got two buckets, the Lady Knights went on a 11-4 run. West Lauderdale continued to pressure the Lady Trojans and finished the half with an 7-2 run to lead 39-21 at half.
The Lady Knights opened the second half with a 10-4 run to stretch the lead more. West Lauderdale had the game in hand with a 55-32 lead after three quarters of play.
Northeast was able to put together a 9-4 run in the final minutes of the game against West Lauderdale subs, but the Lady Knights held on for the big 65-45 win.
Southeast 71
Clarkdale 43
It wasn't pretty, but the Lady Tigers of Southeast finished off the Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale in the fourth quarter to take a 71-43 victory.
The Lady Tigers struggled from the free throw line in the first quarter and allowed Clarkdale to hang around. Southeast went 4-for-16 from the charity stripe in the first quarter and the Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale fought hard to stay close.
Southeast finished the quarter with five straight points to take an 18-12 lead after one quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to fight and Southeast continued to struggle from the free throw line in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers were 9-for-18 from the line, but were able to stretch the lead to 36-25 at the half.
Clarkdale fought back and trailed only 45-37 after the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs closed out the quarter on a 8-3 run.
Southeast pressure Clarkdale in the fourth quarter and finally started pouring it on. Southeast went on a 13-0 run in the final quarter and blew away the Lady Bulldogs to take the 71-43 victory.
Southeast finished the game 24-for-57 from the free thrown line while Clarkdale was only able to get to the line 15 times on the night.
Samantha Smith and Shalonda Mitchell each scored 17 points in the victory. Stacy Tate added in 13 points. JorD'an Orr led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 while Felicia Kirksey added 10.
