Belgreen High School’s volleyball program recently received a grant that will go toward new training equipment. Coach Teresa Whitten made the decision to apply for the Franklin County Community Development Commission grant after the past season.

Written said she did some research on equipment that would help the program improve and finally applied for the grant before Thanksgiving.

Other than the volleyball net system, the team has not had any other equipment. So, with the announcement from the FCCDC that a $200 grant would be approved for the team, Whitten said she is determined to get the equipment ordered sometime after Christmas.

Originally, Whitten had requested a grant of $1,200 for equipment that would help in both hitting and passing. Despite not being able to afford all of the equipment, she said she is still happy that her team will benefit from the passing equipment. Coming out of their best season yet with a record of 16-14, Whitten said she and the team are confident that the equipment will help them get better and more prepared for the upcoming season.

“The setting (passing) net will help our setters become very precise and accurate,” said Whitten. “We have several returning players who are ready to go to the next level, so I am doing all I can to help them reach their goals, and this equipment will be a start.”
