Red Devils fall to Cougars
They were looking to get their first region win of the season after demolishing Brilliant last week 52-16, but the Red Devils wouldn’t be so lucky this week against the Cougars.
After being out-scored 20-0 by Waterloo to start the game, the Red Devils’ offense and defense wouldn’t quit and buckled down, showing heart once again, coming all the way back to take a 22-20 lead.
Vina and Waterloo exchanged the lead a couple times, but the Red Devils couldn’t complete the comeback, falling to the Cougars 33-30.
“We came out flat and got down 20-0. I’m proud our boys fought back and competed,” Head Coach Luke Childers said. “We have to come out with a sense of urgency this Friday against Phillips and play our bat from the first to last snap.”
Vina’s high octane rushing attack is a big part of their game plan and what decides how successful they will be.
“Our offensive line has to step up and make holes for our running backs. This is an extremely important game.”
Red Devils (1-2) (0-1) look to get to .500 on the year and back to their winning ways as they host Phillips (0-3) (0-1) in a 1A Region 8 game who’s coming off a 48-16 loss in their first region game to Cherokee.
